Konsep Pendidikan Karakter dalam Kitab Bidayatul Hidayah Karya Imam Abu Hamid Muhammad Al-Ghazali

Abstrak

Modern education is currently facing the challenges of moral decadence and a character crisis resulting from the dominance of academic formalism, which tends to overlook the formation of moral foundations. Responding to these issues, this study aims to identify the character values contained in the book Bidayatul Hidayah by Imam Al-Ghazali, while analyzing the construction of its educational concept to ensure its relevance to the dynamic needs of the modern era. This study employs a qualitative approach of the library research type, utilizing the original text of the book as the primary data source. Data collection was carried out through documentation methods using note-taking and thematic inventory techniques, which were subsequently analyzed using content analysis and hermeneutic interpretation. The results of the study reveal that Imam Al-Ghazali's concept of character education centers on the purification of the soul (tazkiyatun nafs), which encompasses three main dimensions: the dimension of obedience (ubudiyah) through the habituation of daily etiquette (adab), the preventive dimension to safeguard bodily organs from sinful acts, and the relational dimension regulating the ethics of social interaction. In conclusion, the methods of habituation and role modeling in this book offer practical guidance that balances cognitive, spiritual, and moral aspects. The implication is that this framework can be reconstructed as a comprehensive solution for contemporary education systems to foster a generation that is intellectually bright while possessing strong moral integrity.
