Abstract

Advances in information technology have driven digital transformation across various sectors, including higher education. Higher education institutions are required to implement information systems to improve governance effectiveness, administrative efficiency, the quality of academic services, and data-driven decision-making. However, the implementation of information systems does not merely serve to digitize administrative processes; it also plays a role in supporting comprehensive organizational transformation. This study aims to analyze the concept of information systems in higher education organizations, examine their implementation in universities, and identify their impact on higher education organizations. The study employs a library research approach, utilizing secondary data sourced from relevant books, scientific articles, and national and international journals. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis through the process of identifying, classifying, synthesizing, and interpreting various findings from previous studies. Research findings indicate that information systems have evolved into strategic tools that integrate various organizational functions, including academic, financial, human resources, digital learning, and administrative services. The implementation of information systems has a positive impact in the form of improved administrative effectiveness, academic service quality, organizational communication, the productivity of faculty and staff, and data-driven decision-making. Furthermore, information systems help enhance the student learning experience by providing academic services that are faster, more flexible, and more transparent.
